Nonviolent Communication
Nonviolent Communication is a communication process developed by
Marshall B Rosenberg
At iaPOETRY we believe in the principles and practice of Nonviolent Communication.
It focuses on three aspects of communication:
Self-empathy: a compassionate awareness of one’s own inner experience
Empathy: a compassionate awareness of the inner experience of others
Honest self-expression: expressing oneself authentically in a way that is likely to inspire compassion in others
Nonviolent Communication is the integration of:
Consciousness: a set of principles that supports living a life of compassion, collaboration, courage and authenticity
Language: understanding how words contribute to connection or distance
Communication: knowing how to ask for what we want, how to hear others even in disagreement, and how to move toward solutions that work for all
Nonviolent Communication helps us to:
- Increase our ability to live with choice, meaning, and connection
- Connect empathetically with self and others to have more satisfying relationships
- Share time and resources for the benefit of all
